Welcome to the Voices from Rwanda website, official home of the G.S. Muhura – Henry Box School Link. The aim of the link is not only to raise awareness about Rwanda’s past amongst young people in the UK and to contribute to Rwanda’s promising future through support for reconciliation and development projects, but also to promote a mutually beneficial partnership whereby staff and students from both schools can benefit.
The partnership has recently been recognised by the British Council as part of their Global School Iniative. The programme is a consortium initiative of the British Council, Cambridge Education Foundation, UK One World Linking Association (UKOWLA) and Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO), and is funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID).
The DFID Global School Partnerships programme promotes school partnerships which:
Develop ‘global dimension’ education goals Emphasise equality-based relationships Embed the partnership in the curriculum Contribute to teachers’ professional development Focus on pupil learning in the partner school Work towards whole school involvement Engage and involve the wider community Have long term aims
On this site you can find information about the two schools and the history of the link, learn about Rwanda and its history, view or download curriculum related news and resources, learn some basic Kinyarwanda (see the languages curriculum area) and communicate with students in English or French using the message boards.
Two link teachers from the UK have been working at G.S.Muhura since December 2004. Projects they are currently involved in include:
1) Develop the Student Sponsorship Scheme 2) Enhance the teaching of Science at Muhura 3) Increase provision of ICT at Muhura 4) Establish the Internet at Muhura 5) Establish Curriculum Links 6) Improve spoken English at Muhura 7) Establish Future Projects 8) Facilitate a return trip by Rwandan Students to Visit the UK
